Without question, Better Call Saul is one hell of a spin-off. People are still praising the creators for such a simple yet satisfying conclusion. One of the primary reasons for the show’s success was the perfect casting choices made throughout the series. Kim Wexler, played by Emmy-nominated Rhea Seehorn, was a surprise bomb for the audience. Her portrayal of this character brought new aspects to how women protagonists are on TV.

1. NOT A TALKER BUT A LISTNER
Throughout the series, we see the rise and fall of this character from various aspects. One of the reasons Kim became successful was because of her habit of listening to everything and everyone around her. As an attorney, it gave her an upper hand in every situation she faced in the series. On the other end, Saul’s character is a talker beyond words. Many scenes during the series give us an insight into this theory.
2. OPPOSITE OF A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS
Die-hard fans of the show know that whenever trouble arises, Miss Wexler comes to the rescue. Whenever Saul gets in trouble for anything, which he always does, Kim’s always there to solve it. Portray of these kinds of female characters in the industry still lacks to a great extent. What we need are mature characters with real-life problem-solving instincts. We can see a similar approach in the character development of Jessica Pearson from ‘Suits’ played by Gina Torres.
3. NO GUNS, KIM GOT THE LOOK
Nowadays, In the name of feminism, people are handing female leads guns and bullets. Vince Gilligan tried a different approach to projecting this reality. Without saying much, Kim makes her voice heard during any circumstance through her intense look and presence. Since she is a lawyer, It makes her even more dangerous. We see Kim using this technique throughout the series, especially in court.
4. HASN’T LOST HER WOMANLY TOUCH
Despite being in such a cruel profession and after all of Saul’s mistakes, Kim never turned her back on him. These were some of the traits that made Saul fall in for her. During the starting days of Saul, she was the only one who never demeaned him and always supported him. Later in the series, we can see her devotion and caring nature for her pro-bono (legal work for a client with a low income) clients.
5. SERIOUS AT WORK FUNNY AT HOME
Some of the most entertaining parts of the show turned out when Saul and Kim discussed their day after work. It’s easy to forget the intensity of the show when both the leads are cracking jokes about their bosses. Displaying Kim’s humorous side was a wise decision since it helped the character connect with the audience better. The gigglish scenes performed by Rhea Seehorn for the role were pivotal as they made the viewers feel the aliveness of Wexler.
